Description

April is Poetry Month, so what is a poem?

A poem is a piece of writing that uses imaginative words to share ideas, emotions or a story with the reader-means you!  A person who writes a poem is called a poet. Many poems have words or phrases that sound good together when they are read aloud. There are many kids of poetry: nursery rhymes, acrostic poetry, haiku, concrete/shape poetry, limerick...and many more. Come to the library and explore it in our J 811 section!

Today, try an acrostic poetry. An acrostic poem is a poem where certain letters in each line spell out a word or phrase. Typically, the first letters of each line are used to spell the message, but they can appear anywhere, in the middle or at the end of the word.
