Mishake is a music in Spanish “grown-up and me” class for ages 0-4 (Tuesdays 3:15 pm - 3:55 pm in East Williamsburg)

The program is designed to introduce and expose kids to Latin American music, movement and Spanish language. Taught entirely in Spanish, each 40 minute class is spiced up with creative movement to improve language skills and body awareness.

You can join as a drop-in or sign up for the full spring session which runs Tuesdays 4/1 to 5/27

The results of the Mishake introduction to music program are shown in longer concentration spans, improved intonation, broader vocabulary, body coordination and awareness, stronger interpersonal relationships, a developed musical intelligence, considerable emotional recognition, greater interest in instrumental play, and accurate rhythmic skills. Students of Mishake have continued their music education with Andrea Baquero, the program developer, at NYCPianoSchool, expanding in music theory, piano, voice, guitar and ear training. Mishake students that have been in the program in the last 18 years that’s been running, have been accepted in different music schools around New York City as well as gifted and talented schools in Manhattan and Brooklyn where they continue their formal musical training. ABOUT ANDREA BAQUERO Andrea is a professional musician. She studied piano and music education. She’s the founder of NYC Piano school and developed the Mishake music initiation program which she’s been teaching in New York for 18 years. Andrea is a Steinway and Sons educational partner. Besides music, Andrea studied journalism, Yoga and somatic therapy. She is certified as a yoga instructor, breath coach, vibroacoustic and focalizing therapist, mindset coach, Reiki and Ayurveda practitioner. Andrea has explored music, sound and somatic healing through different cultures; From touring the world as a pianist and singer, exploring and immersing in shamanic, Quechua and yogic traditions, to academic settings like NYU music therapy, deep listening studies of Pauline Oliveros and private studies with the Grammy award winner and University of California faculty teacher Silvia Nakkach. Her constant curiosity and study create a holistic and practical support to spiritual discovery and somatic healing. Andrea believes that “sound and movement are essential to human development because they are a direct path to discovering ourselves and connecting with others. If we practice listening to all the noises in the world, outside of us, we will eventually allow ourselves to focus on all the noises inside us, and learn to discern them. We will be able to tune into a world of vibration and choose to selectively listen and sound with love to that which is nurturing.”
