Description
Join us for a festive evening of fun and flatfooting as we parade along North Flatbush Avenue and stop by local businesses to share music and cheer! We'll celebrate the Winter Solstice by generating some light and warmth on the shortest day of the year. Hosted by North Flatbush Avenue BID and Porch Stomp, in partnership with Make Music New York, the City Stompers, and Brooklyn Contra!
The parade will start at 2 pm with a flatfooting lesson/warm-up from Megan Downes/ the City Stompers. We'll parade down Flatbush Avenue, finishing up at the 6th Avenue Triangle (6th Avenue, Flatbush Avenue, and St Marks Avenue) at 4 pm, where we'll have a rendition of the mystical Abbots Bromley Horn Dance by Ring o'Bells Morris and Half Moon Sword, and group Contra and Square dances. We'll then relocate to 333 Flatbush Avenue for the afterparty, with food, drink, and more music and dance!
Bring your instrument and play along! No matter what level of player, we hope that you'll join us for the parade. Here are some songs that the band is sure to do if you want to prepare in advance:
Angeline the Baker
Old Joe Clark
Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss
Cluck O Hen
Sail Away Ladies
Bonus Tunes:
Breaking Up Christmas
Whiskey Before Breakfast
