Description
Catch JAW at Vanderbilt Open Streets this Saturday, Sept. 14th from 2-4 pm.
JAW formed in 2022 when brothers Julian and Arthur Weston, ages 13 and 11, teamed up with classmate William Emmert, 10, to enter the school talent show. Following the recipe of classic three-piece bands from the 80s and 90s like Nirvana, Green Day, and The Police, JAW layers melodic vocals on top of guitar, bass, and drums. The resulting sound echos the heyday of rock, too, as they belt out tunes by artists like The Clash, Joan Jett, and Oasis.
But this isn’t just another cover band—in addition to playing the classics, JAW (have you figured out the name yet?… Julian, Arthur, William) has been steadily adding original compositions to their repertoire. “The Story of a Deer’s Life,” their first original, is a lyrically-ironic ode to a deer who survives a hunter’s shot only to be hit by a car. The angry “Storm Full of Lava” sees Russia’s invasion of Ukraine through the eyes of an animal. “Apple Pie” is a celebration of Grandma’s tasty Thanksgiving Day dessert. An album of all-original material is on the horizon.
