Description
The Basquiat Project: Looking Back, Moving Forward is an art exhibit featuring artworks created by New York City students inspired by Brooklyn-born artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Barclays Center will host its fourth annual art show, showcasing work inspired by Brooklyn-born artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Eighty-five incredible works by Brooklyn Visual Arts students, from the second to twelfth grades, will be on display, celebrating the culmination of a year-long curriculum and inspired by social justice themes chosen by the student artists themselves.
The program was developed in 2021 by the Brooklyn Nets, New York City Public Schools, and the Fund for Public Schools. Since launching, the Basquiat curriculum – funded by the Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation’s Social Justice Fund – has been taught to 6,000 NYC students.
Attendees will include Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Kim Council and Gregg Bishop, Executive Director of the Social Justice Fund. There will also be performances by the Brooklyn High School of Arts Choir and the Grand Street Campus Marching Band.
