Description
We're celebrating Juneteenth at the Brownsville Library!
Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day. Although it has long celebrated in the African American community, this monumental event remains largely unknown to most Americans. Today, Juneteenth celebrates African American resilience and achievement while aiding in the preservation of those historical narratives that promoted racial and personal advancement since Freedom Day.
Come celebrate with us and enjoy a live performance from Akwesi M. Asante. In their performance of Asante's African Safari, Asante brigns African history and culture to life through story, song, and dance.
This program is intended for children and families and will take place in the children's area of the library's main floor.
More on Juneteenth from the National Museum of African American History and Culture can be found here.
