Greenlight partners with publisher Legacy Lit to celebrate Black creativity and Black-owned business the Friday before Juneteenth!
Greenlight continues our tradition of celebrating Black creativity and Black-owned businesses with a party the Friday before Juneteenth! Following last year's collaboration with Black fashion boutique Granru, this year's celebration highlights Legacy Lit, a new Black-led publishing imprint dedicated to giving voice to issues, authors, and all groups that have been underrepresented, under-served, and overlooked with a mission is to inspire social change and to elevate and celebrate diverse communities.
The event will feature brief readings by Legacy Lit authors including Jonathan Conyers (I Wasn't Supposed to Be Here: Finding My Voice, Finding My People, Finding My Way), Antonia Hylton (Madness: Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum), Eddie Ndopu (Sipping Dom Pérignon Through a Straw: Reimagining Success as a Disabled Achiever), and Eboni K. Williams (Bet on Black: The Good News about Being Black in America Today).
Courtney Roker Laga will serve Juneteenth-inspired crudites from her book Al Roker's Recipes to Live by: Easy, Memory-Making Family Dishes for Every Occasion, and additional snacks and drinks from Black-owned Brooklyn businesses including Jaylee's Treats and Happy Cork will be served. A portion of proceeds from all featured books at the event will be donated to the Free Black Women's Library. Please join us as we celebrate Juneteenth with this special event you won't want to miss!
