🚢 Tanker Time: Mary A. Whalen at Pier 11 in Red Hook

During TankerTime enjoy the main deck of PortSide's historic ship, the tanker MARY A. WHALEN set with tables, chairs, and hammocks. Watch ships, ducks, and geese come and go. Look for the return of our popular Second Sundays TankerTime with Mediterranean music from May through September, 7-11 pm.

Other areas and activities to explore include:

• Kids toy area  
• A free library in the BookTent with kids' books you can take
• ArtTable with colored pencils, watercolors, blank paper, and coloring book pages
• Kiddie pool during hot weather.
• Experience the ship's inside in the Tankerman’s cabin with 2 bunk beds (kids can get on them), stuffies, and books you can read (but not take; we use these for our education programs
• TankerFlicks = when we show movies on deck
• TankerTunes = concerts and music jams
• TankerTours = tours of the ship including the interior

Schedule:  M-F 10 am to 6 pm and often later. Weekends often. We have fewer personnel since the pandemic, so if staff are out at a meeting, the deck is closed (indicated by a sign on the gangway).  Volunteer so we can expand weekend hours.
