A block of family-friendly short films from past editions of AoBFF. No tickets needed, just show up with a blanket or chair and enjoy some great indie films under the stars!

This FREE event is produced in partnership with the NYC Parks Department.

BREAKFAST AT THE BODEGA

A talented young Brooklynite/Palestinian-American attempts to live out his dreams of becoming a French pastry chef despite his first-generation father's wishes. Struggling to fill his first big order for a gig, tensions arise when the father forbids him from using their family bodega to cook.

THE WALK UP

When a young woman from Texas moves to Manhattan, her ambition and independence are shaken by the long six flight walk up to her apartment in this (mostly) silent film.

FISH STORY

A grieving father and daughter struggle to connect until Mom returns... as a fish. Fish Story is a comedic drama about processing loss. After losing her mother, Sofia refuses to talk. Her father Nicolas struggles to connect with her until she discovers that Mom has returned…as a fish! With a new fish-mom in the house, Sofia comes to life while Nicolas is pushed way out of his comfort zone.

STILLNESS

The calm after the storm, the quiet reflection on stillness in winter. About how time can pass and while some things change, others remain the same.

THE SAVIOR OF CONEY ISLAND

Meet Dick Zigun, “Honorary Mayor of Coney Island” and learn about the beginnings of Coney Island USA. Under Dick, Coney Island USA developed and produced a number of beloved summer programs including the Mermaid Parade and the Coney Island Circus Sideshow. Dick moved to Coney Island in 1979, when the historic amusement park was just getting by on life support. At that time Coney Island was a scary place to be, but Dick had a vision and over time has been able to see his vision come to pass. Dick also talks at length about Lillie Santangelo and her famous Wax Musee where Coney Island USA was born.

JUST A BROADWAY BABY: MARY ELLEN ASHLEY

A short documentary film about the career and life of Mary Ellen Ashley who made her Broadway debut in 1943 in The Innocent Voyage (as Mary Ellen Glass) and went on to do the entire run of the original Broadway Production of Annie Get Your Gun with Ethel Merman. Her career has spanned 80 years and includes: opening for headliners in Vegas; performing on Broadway, and starring in regional theatre, radio, film and early Television.
