Description

Open Streets on Montague Street will be happening every Saturday in May, June, and July, and Saturday from September 9th through October 28th. The streets between Clinton- Henry and Henry- Hicks will be closed to traffic between 10 am to 7 pm. Enjoy car free public open space and support the businesses on Montague Street during Open Streets on Montague. All activities are free. Friends, family, bikes, scooters, games, and pets on leashes welcome.

10AM - 12PM:TOUR DE BROOKLYN WITH L'APPARTEMENT 4F
HENRY - HICKS
Be the first to see the new Linus eDutchi & eRoadster at  L’Appartement 4F, 115 Montague Street. Arrive by bike and receive a complimentary croissant. Enter a contest to win a Linus & L’Appartement 4F gift card and depart  down Montague Street toward the Promenade with a map of L’Appartement 4F’s favorite destinations in Brooklyn. There are only a few slots for bikes on Montague Street. You are 100%  responsible for  your bike. RSVP mandatory. 

12PM - 7PM: HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANON JOHN
CLINTON - HENRY
We’re kicking off Open Streets today celebrating one of everyone’s favorite neighbors, Canon John Denaro, pastor of St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church on Clinton and Montague Streets, as he marks his 60th birthday with music and entertainment for all ages at a day-long party sure to get you dancing in the streets.

12PM - 5PM: KIDS EAT FREE AT MAD FOR CHICKEN
HICKS – PIERREPONT PLACE
Mad for Chicken, 📍80 Montague Street, welcomes kids and their adults to Open Streets on Montague with a special offer. Free 3-piece chicken tender and fries for kids 1-10 years old, with a purchase of an entree every Saturday in May, June and July between 12pm – 5pm.

12PM - 5PM: KIDS PLAY
HENRY - HICKS
Browse and READ at Street Lab’s pop-up, portable reading room and curated collection of books, PLAY at a pop-up obstacle course, and chalk the street with STREET MARKERS to create  murals on Montague St between Henry and Hicks St. These activities are offered through Street Lab’s new Equipment Library for Public Space, made possible with funding from NYC Dept. of Small Business Services, with support from NYC Dept. of Transportation. 12PM - 5PM: COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY RESTOCK
CLINTON – HENRY
Support neighbors in need. Help The Service Collective collect pantry items to benefit food pantries at St. Ann & Holy Trinity, Breaking Ground, St. Charles Borromeo and First Presbyterian Church. Together, these pantries  regularly feed 600 of our neighbors. For more information and to register, click here. These items have been requested for donation

1PM - 1:45PM: HUNGRY MARCH BAND
CLINTON - HENRY
Hungry March Band, a brass, percussion, and performance ensemble has been bringing live musical spectacles to the people of New York City and beyond for more than 20 years. They embody the spirit of NYC’s streets with an inimitable brass sound and inspired, eclectic dance with a unique sonic voice that melds their musical knowledge of big band, traditional, and free jazz, with punk rock and global brass influences.

2PM - 2:45PM: SAMOA WILSON TRIO
CLINTON - HENRY 
Samoa Wilson has been captivating audiences with a voice the New York Times calls “sweet, effortless, old-timey” since she was 12 years old. A staple on the New York City folk scene, you can expect an electrifying performance of gospel, blues and jazz, and torchy and honeyed renditions of haunting little-known tunes. Link 

2:30PM - 3:45PM: MARTIAL ARTS DEMOS WITH CHAMPION MARTIAL ARTS
HENRY - HICKS
Find a spot on Montague Street near Henry Street for  Champion Martial Arts’, riveting martial arts demonstration. Be amazed as Champions’ Masters and students demonstrate Taekwondo, kicks, spins,  board breaking, and more. First performance: 2:30pm. Second performance: 3:30pm. You don’t want to miss this! 

3PM - 3:45PM: BROOKLYN POETS
CLINTON - HENRY
Enjoy live readings on the street, here in the heart of the birthplace of American poetry — Brooklyn Heights. Brooklyn Poets will sponsor an open mic event for its members with poems about birth and birthdays that is sure to be seriously fun.

3:30PM - 5:30PM: DOUBLE DUTCH WITH ELITE BROOKLYN JUMPERS
CLINTON - HENRY
Come watch and learn Double Dutch with some of Brooklyn’s best jumpers. All ages welcome – young and young at heart.

3:45PM - 4PM: GRACE CHORALE OF BROOKLYN
CLINTON - HENRY
Grace Chorale of Brooklyn is an 85-member chorus based in Brooklyn Heights dedicated to the performance and promotion of choral singing in Brooklyn. In their 45th year, GCB concerts, performing partnerships, and educational outreach events continue to offer a wide variety of choral music to audiences throughout the Borough. Join Grace Chorale for a special performance and to sing Happy Birthday to Canon John Denaro of St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church and Pro-Cathedral.

4PM - 5:30PM: DJ CAPTAIN KITTY
CLINTON - HENRY
All aboard Captain Kitty’s fantastic voyage. Leave your troubles at the dock and speed along with Captain Kitty to the land of disco, dance, and funk. Enjoy big vocals, epic string sections, and basslines that could power a cruise ship.

4PM: STORY TIME WITH AUTHOR MALLORY SCHLOSS
HENRY - HICKS
Join author Mallory Schloss for a reading of  her new book “Let’s Move and Groove!” , an interactive story that encourages children ages 2-5 to dance around, act silly, and practice foundational skills like counting and the ABCs. Be ready for a fun, shared experience for kids and adults alike. Tattoos, coloring books and more.
