From Lunar New Year Celebrations to Camp Fairs and Family Movie Festivals, February goes big on great events despite being a short month! Read on for our Top 20:

1. 🧧 Celebrate Lunar New Year at Brooklyn Children's Museum in Crown Heights

Saturday, February 1 | 10am-5pm | $14-$15 admission | For ages 3+
Join Brooklyn Children’s Museum as we usher in the Year of the Snake! Learn about the traditions of Lunar New Year through storytelling with authors Yobe Qiu and Ran Wei; live music, dance, and Kung Fu workshops with the New York Chinese Cultural Center; calligraphy workshops with artist Nelson Leung, Snake-themed programs in Nature’s Engineers (BCM’s STEM MakerSpace), and lion dance parades led by the Chinatown Community Young Lions.




2. 🎥 BAMkids Film Festival at BAM in Fort Greene

Saturday-Sunday, February 1-February 2 | 11am-2pm, | $10-$14 | For ages 3+
Adventure and imagination come together at this fun-filled family film program, offering some of this year’s most exciting kid-friendly shorts from across the globe! Featuring the creations of more than 50 filmmakers, one of Brooklyn’s beloved cinematic traditions is back for its 27th year, offering a new and exciting trove of animated, live-action, and documentary treasures. These diverse stories offer families a fresh perspective on our world. Let kids’ imaginations soar as bold heroes of all kinds set out on their own journeys in these wildly fun and uplifting stories. And don’t forget to vote for your favorite film… it just might win a BAMmy Award for Best Live Action or Best Animated Short!




3. 🧧 Lunar New Year Celebration at Albee Square + CityPoint in Downtown Brooklyn

Saturday, February 1 | 12-4:10pm | FREE 
Celebrate the Year of the Snake at City Point with traditional Lion Dances, Kids' Lunar New Year-inspired crafts and more! Families are encouraged to come dressed in red. The 12-2pm family event will take place in the gallery space on the Main Floor / next door to Rumi. Downtown Brooklyn Partnership presents Chow Lay Fut and his dynamic team of lion dance performers starting at 1pm. Lion Dance schedule: 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm @ City Point Prince St Corridor, 2:10 pm, 2:40 pm, 3:20 pm in Albee Square, 3:40 pm, 4:10 pm in DeKalb Market Hall.




4. 🥬 Plant Powered Kids Festival at Industry City

Sunday, February 2 |  10am-5pm | $5-25
A dynamic event supporting plant-based and veg-curious families through enriching panels and workshops, cooking demos, yoga for all ages, recycled arts and crafts, 30 curated vendors, a book nook and book give-away, and entertainment by a special magician/puppeteer/musician.



5. 🌞 CAMPTOPIA Summer Camp Fair at Atlantic Terminal Mall in Downtown Brooklyn

Sunday, February 2 | 11am-2pm | FREE | For ages 2-12
Mommy Poppins and Brooklyn Bridge Parents have partnered up to host CAMPTOPIA, NYC's biggest summer camp fair ever with 30+free kids activities! Unlike traditional camp fairs, this event provides an opportunity for families to experience camps in person. We will have 30+ free kids activities for all ages including STEM fun, games, face painting, DJ, crafts, dance lessons, freebies and more. Plus, lots of information and early bird specials for summer camps '25. The camp fair will take place at Atlantic Terminal Mall on the ground floor next to Party City at 625 Atlantic Ave (opposite Barclays Center), a shopping destination and main transit hub located at the junction of popular Downtown Brooklyn/Prospect Heights/Fort Greene neighborhoods.




6. 📚 World Read Aloud Day at Greenlight Bookstore in Fort Greene

Wednesday, February 5 | 11am-4pm | FREE
Greenlight is excited to partner with LitWorld and join readers across the globe for World Read Aloud Day, now in its 15th year! WRAD has evolved into a global movement of millions of readers, writers, and listeners from across the world coming together to honor the joy and power of reading and continue expanding the definition and scope of global literacy. Greenlight will take part by inviting children's book writers from our community to read from their work throughout the day and inviting schools and other youth organizations (as well as the public) to join us to enjoy their work read aloud. 7. 💃 Hype Dance Parties for Kids at Time Out Market in DUMBO

Friday, February 7 | 10am doors, 10:15-11am class | FREE | For ages 1-3
Start the morning off right! Join HYPE Dance Community as we dance and sing to all of our favorite jams! HYPE littles and their caretakers will love this movement class that boosts self-confidence in a playful, engaging way! Get ready for 45 minutes of nonstop FUN! Delicious doughnuts will be available courtesy of Doughnuttery!




8. ☀️ PS32 Summer & School Break Camp Fair in Gowanus

Saturday, February 8 | 10am-1pm | FREE entry | For ages 3-12
This year’s event is bigger and better than ever — bringing together over 20 summer camps, school break camps and after-school enrichment providers, offering everything from outdoor exploration and sports to creative arts and STEM. Meet camp directors face-to-face, ask questions and be the first to hear about promotions and exclusive camp fair discounts. Get to know multiple providers all at one location, while your child has the opportunity to participate in activities that will give them a taste of what each camp offers. But that’s not all… there will be 30+ free kids activities, including arts and crafts, games, pasta making, STEM fun, raffles, music, food and more. Come in from the cold and join us for s’mores by the “campfire,” a build-your-own trail mix bar and lots of camp time fun! Invite friends and family!




9. ☀️ TownSquare BK's Summer Resources Fair and Greencycle Swap in Greenpoint

Saturday, February 8 | 12-3pm | FREE/Suggested donation
TownSquare BK invites you to learn about local camps and other summer resources and services at their Greencycle Swap. Donate and swap Men's, Women's, Children's, and Babies' clothes, shoes, books, and toys in clean and working condition. Recycle, reuse and renew!  Thank you for joining to keep our world a little cleaner and beautiful.  




10. 🧧 Family Lunar New Year Celebration at Central Library in Prospect Heights

Join the world-renowned musician Vivian Fang Liu, a classical pianist, children's music artist, and Grammy U mentor, has graced renowned stages like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, captivating audiences with her musical versatility. As February ushers in the lunar new year, Vivian embarks on a delightful musical journey, sharing the richness of cultures, traditions, and enchanting stories of the Year of the Snake through her beautiful, upbeat, and fun music with the participation of the students’ choir to sing Love Peace and Prayer. Audiences can anticipate an enchanting celebration, as Vivian Fang Liu weaves a tapestry of joy and cultural exploration through her musical prowess and each participant will receive a red paper lantern.




11. 🌞 NYC Camp Fair with PJ Library at Hannah Senesh School in Carroll Gardens

Join PJ Library for a Jewish Summer Camp Fair in Brooklyn dedicated to helping parents like you explore and find the perfect summer camp fit for your kids! Macaroni KID Brooklyn NW has teamed up with Time Out Market to schedule more free concerts for toddlers and babies with Brooklyn "Kindie" favorites Hopalong Andrew and Suzi Shelton! Come rock out with us and grab some good eats while you're there!




14. ⚔️ New York Sword Dance Festival at locations across Brooklyn

Saturday-Sunday, February 15-16 | 10am-4pm | FREE
Half Moon Sword will present its 39th annual New York Sword Dance Festival with ten performing troupes from across the northeastern U.S. in an exciting weekend of performances in public spaces in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The Festival, which New York-based Half Moon Sword inaugurated in 1986, is the oldest and first event in North America to focus on English-style sword dancing. The Festival will feature both mystical, stately longsword and vigorous rapper sword dancing, with live music on fiddle, accordion, and other instruments. Some performances will also include Cotswold Morris and step dancing, related English folk traditions. Brooklyn locations include: Brooklyn Heights Library, Pacific Library, and Park Slope Library on Saturday, Feb 15 and Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Old First Reformed Church, and Brooklyn Waldorf School on Sunday, Feb 16.

17. 🖤 Black History Month: Peace Over Prejudice at Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park

Join Prospect Park Alliance and the 67th Precinct Clergy Council for a Black History Month event centered on the theme, "Peace Over Prejudice." Enjoy an afternoon of painting, history, food, and community at Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park. This unique spin on the traditional "sip and paint" invites our community to contribute to a collective artwork, which will be unveiled at the end of the event. This event blends creativity, history and community-building while standing against hate and taking time to recognize Black history.




18. 🖤 Black Future Festival at Brooklyn Children's Museum in Crown Heights

Sunday, February 16-Saturday, February 22 | 10am-5pm | $14-$15 admission | For ages 3-10
Join BCM for a week of reflection and future-forward fun inspired by the national celebration of Black History Month and the African Diaspora! We’re partnering with Kendra J. Bostock and STooPS to honor Black culture with incredible dance performances, powerful storytelling, dynamic workshops, and more!




19. 🫶 Eat Dinner and Clean Up at Community Dinner w/ Local Refugee Families St. Ann's Church in BK Heights

Sunday, February 16 | 6-8pm | Suggested donation: $30 per person or $100 per family
Join The Service Collective for their monthly Community Dinner and share community, connection, and delicious food with recently arrived refugee families. Our new neighbors will cook the main part of a meal and you will contribute side dishes, salads, and desserts. We will all listen to and learn from each other's stories. This evening gives the refugee families the chance to earn extra money and meet community members. Hosts and attendees get to sample international cuisine and help make new connections with neighbors, new and old! Kids can expect to have a blast running around and making art with their new friends. Everyone is expected to help clean up. Closer to the date they will circulate a dinner theme and a way for you to sign up to bring a potluck dish to contribute. All ages are welcome so please bring the whole family!




20. 🎥 Events for Youth & Family: 14th Annual 90-Second Newbery Film Festival at Central Library in Prospect Heights

Saturday, February 22 | 1-2pm | FREE
Here comes the fourteenth annual 90-Second Newbery Film Festival—a yearly video contest in which kid filmmakers create weird short movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery award-winning books in about 90 seconds. The screening is hosted by children's author James Kennedy (The Order of Odd-Fish) and Newbery Honor winner Rita Williams-Garcia (One Crazy Summer and more).
