Go-to Brooklyn parent resources Macaroni KID Brooklyn NW and Brooklyn Bridge Parents have teamed up to bring you some of the best family events for Brooklyn families in June including annual festivals, outdoor movie screenings and performances, Pride and Juneteenth celebrations, a first-ever celebration of Brooklyn non-profits, and more special events as we head into summer. 1. Photoville Opening Weekend Celebration at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Celebrate the opening of the 13th annual Photoville Festival with a community celebration! There will be two full days of family-friendly activities, photography workshops, engaging tours, and a captivating night of visual storytelling. There is something for everyone! Family activities include Drop-In Zine-Making (1-4pm) and a Cyanotype Workshop with Medicinal Herbs (4-6pm) on Saturday and Craft Activities with Creatively Wild (12-5pm) on Sunday. If you find yourself hungry, there will be delicious bites at the Smorgasburg Pop-Up.

2. The Brooklyn Greek Festival

Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Brooklyn annually hosts a vibrant outdoor Greek festival on car-free Schermerhorn Street that celebrates the rich heritage and traditions of Greece. The festival embodies the warmth and hospitality for which the Greek community is renowned, welcoming all to revel in the festivities. There will be traditional food, dancing, live music, kids activities and much more daily starting at 11am. Special highlight Brooklyn Bouzouki Night on Thursday, June 6th with live music and dancing.

6. Celebrate Juneteenth

Hosted by City Point and Da Spot NYC, this celebration in Downtown Brooklyn is perfect for kids aged 3-10. Enjoy a special read-aloud by Malcolm Dill and a captivating spoken word performance by Kayden Hern, known for his poem “In My Mind” recited at Governor Hochul’s inauguration! Juneteenth-inspired activities will include DIY crafts: a Make-Your-Own-Flag station, a bracelet beading bar, Marvin’s First Day coloring sheets, and a cookie decorating station. Brooklyn Org, Brooklyn Bridge Parents, Brooklyn Made and City Point unite the community and bring the borough’s spirit to life at the first “Show Brooklyn Some Love Fest". Kids will have an opportunity to show their love for our Borough by participating in building the FIRST EVER gigantic Brooklyn Bridge from recycled materials. 9. The 42nd Annual Mermaid Parade

Founded in 1983, the Mermaid Parade pays tribute to a century of Coney Island ingenuity, revelry, and pageantry by celebrating the artistic vision of the masses. With everything from a crowned King Neptune and Queen Mermaid, fantastical sea creatures and mer-folk, marching bands and dancing groups, to baby strollers and mechanized floats, it showcases the creativity of individuals from the five boroughs and beyond. It opens the summer with a celebration of incredible art, NYC’s entrepreneurial spirit, and our community pride.
