Review: New Victory Theater's 'CardNinja' – Bring the kids!

Recommend for all ages 6+, 'CardNinja' showcases card stunts and comedy through November 25

November 9, 2023

My family had a blast at the New Victory Theater’s latest show CardNinja at Stage 42. Creator and performer Javier Jarquin singlehandedly entertains for the hour-long show with a mix of silly self-deprecating humor, audience interaction, and impressive ninja card tricks cultivated over "years of boredom" during his childhood in New Zealand. My 5 and 7 year old kids were giggling the entire time. I would absolutely recommend a trip to go see it with your kids before the show ends on November 25th!

Javier Jarquin amazes audiences with his spectacular playing card stunts. Whether he’s throwing high speed cards at long-distance targets or maneuvering a playing card like a boomerang, Jarquin is sure to have the whole family alternating between laughter and awe.

As usual, the New Victory took extra measures to make sure it was a great experience for kids. Come early! For 45 minutes before and 20 minutes after every show, the lobby of Stage 42 features free do-together activities in which families can try new performance skills or explore the show’s themes. My kids loved designing and coloring their own deck of cards before the show. Make sure to grab their cozy booster seats on your way into the theater to make sure your kids have a great view of the stage.

Disclosure: I was hosted for the purposes of this review, however, all views mentioned here are my own.
